How to Get Your Dog Used to Wearing Boots
A dog’s first reaction to boots is almost always the same: funny walking, high stepping, and a look that says, “What are you doing to me?” 🙂
This is completely normal. Dogs first need to get used to the new feeling on their paws and the different contact with the ground.
To make the process as easy and comfortable as possible, we recommend a few simple steps.
Proper Boot Fit
Before letting your dog walk around, make sure the boots are fitted correctly. It’s important that the boots sit securely on the paws, do not twist while walking, and do not fall off.
If a boot is not properly secured, it will bother the dog and make walking feel even more unusual.
Put on All Four Boots
We recommend putting all four boots on at the same time. This helps your dog adjust more quickly to the new feeling and balance while walking.
Once the boots are on, let your dog take a few steps. The first few steps will probably look funny — and that is completely normal.
Check the Boots Again After the First Steps
After your dog walks a little, the boots may shift slightly or settle more naturally onto the paws. Because of this, we recommend checking them again and tightening or adjusting them if needed.
A properly fitted boot should feel stable while still remaining comfortable for the dog.
Praise and Reward Your Dog
As soon as your dog starts walking, praise them and reward them with treats or playtime. This helps create a positive association with wearing the boots.
A Little Patience and Lots of Praise 🙂
Most dogs adapt to wearing boots much faster than owners expect. With the right fit, short training sessions, and a positive experience, dog boots quickly become a normal part of everyday walks.
